The Bible is a library rather than a book, gathering the Hebrew scriptures written and edited over roughly a thousand years, and, for Christians, the Greek New Testament composed in the first century CE. The Old Testament moves from creation and the patriarchs through the exodus, the kingdom of Israel, exile and return, and includes law, history, prophecy, psalms and wisdom writing. The New Testament contains four accounts of the life of Jesus, a history of the early church, the letters of Paul and others, and the visions of Revelation.
