A short story first published in Cosmopolitan in 1936. Francis Macomber, a rich American on safari in Kenya, has run from a wounded lion in front of his wife Margot and their professional hunter Robert Wilson, and Margot punishes him by spending the night with Wilson. The next day, hunting buffalo, Macomber discovers that his fear has gone and feels, for the first time, happy. As a wounded bull charges him, Margot fires from the car and kills her husband. The story leaves it to the reader whether she meant to.
