Lemuel Gulliver, a ship's surgeon, recounts four voyages. In Lilliput he is a giant among six-inch people whose wars and court intrigues mirror England's. In Brobdingnag he is a toy among giants whose king concludes that Europeans are odious vermin. The third voyage visits the flying island of Laputa and the projectors of Lagado, who extract sunbeams from cucumbers, and the immortal, senile Struldbruggs. In the land of the Houyhnhnms, rational horses rule over brutish humanoid Yahoos, and Gulliver returns home unable to bear the company of his own species.
