Written as a sequel to the Gospel of Luke, Acts tells how the followers of Jesus became a church spread across the Roman world. It opens with the ascension and the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost, follows Peter and the Jerusalem community, and records the first martyrdom, Stephen's. Its second half belongs to Paul, from his conversion on the road to Damascus through three missionary journeys, his arrest in Jerusalem, and his appeal to Caesar, ending with him preaching under house arrest in Rome.
