The five lectures Freud delivered in English translation at Clark University in Massachusetts in 1909, his only visit to America. He tells the story of psychoanalysis from Breuer's treatment of Anna O. through the abandonment of hypnosis, the discovery of resistance and repression, dream and slip interpretation, infantile sexuality and transference. Published in 1910, they became the standard short introduction to his ideas.
